Welcome!

Dear and fellow reader, by checking this page you have shown interest in the OpenFrag project or any part of it. This introduction will hopefully learn you all you need to know regarding this project. It will outline all components of OpenFrag, the people behind it, our working strategy, services we offer and a lot more. Enjoy!

What is OpenFrag?

OpenFrag (oF) is an open source project with the aim of creating a well designed open source engine, a game and an editor to accompany it. oF has an active community, experienced developers (some even from famous AAA titles!), very fun and educative to work with. The goal of this project primarily is to show people what it's like to build a commercial grade game, teach them and have fun as a team.

Our project uses third party that have been chosen with the utmost care and meet our demands as much as possible, we chose not to reinvent the wheel which has caused so much other projects to fail. In fact, the way we work was directly influenced by doing things differently than the projects that have already met their demise.

If you have always thought that developing your own game would be nearly impossible then here is the chance to experience yourself, and have a lot of fun trying. Developing a game model takes us from concept drawing to a fully 3d model and then texturing and animation will have to be applied, a real challenge that requires a lot of energy but is more than rewarding. Coding is needed to add game functionality, sound effects and music have to be created to let the players submerge in the game. So we don't only need a lot of people, we also need them in a lot of different categories.

Open source, open mind, OpenFrag!

The people behind OpenFrag

OpenFrag has been founded by Wilbert 'IFASS' van de Ridder in 2003 as a naive hobby project back then. Somehow the idea gained enough attention to establish a pretty big team. Although due mostly to in-experience in game development most of the team quickly left in the months that followed. Now years have past and there has always been a small core team that kept OpenFrag alive, consisting of:

  • Wilbert 'IFASS' van de Ridder (Founder/Management/Media)
  • Geert 'MrPierce' Schoots (Management)
  • Sander 'Brainless' Bisschops (Coding)
  • Simon 'Simun' de la Court (Website/PR)

Besides these four people there are numerous people that are still around and have proven very dedicated and helpful to OpenFrag, to name a few:

  • Lars 'Levia' Wesselius (Coding)
  • Pedro 'Xor' (Coding)
  • HawVer (Lurker)
  • Rrebel (Lurker)
  • Tapio (Sound)
  • b0101 (Coding)
  • Sai_Co (Art)
  • DerTee (Art)
  • Th0br0 (Coding)
